We are currently open for submissions! Our portal will close on April 30, 2026.

We are looking for work that, first and foremost, finds and uplifts climate hope. There are so, so many things we can read already that tell us what is going wrong in our world (e.g. the seas rising, increased fires, natural disasters, discrimination, hate crimes, etc). These are all vital to our conversations, and must be shared in order for us to take action. What we do much less, however, and what is just as vital, is sharing the solutions we find, spreading them to the world, and making them accessible, impactful, and grounded in justice for everyone. We need work that shares solutions and simultaneously engages with the hardship from which they arise. That is what The Calyx Hope Network is for. Send us your most far-flung dreams, most joyful rebellions, future-driven memories, and of course, all of your love stories to the magic of our world. We need to remember why we persist, always.

P.S. We are on Duotrope, so please report our response time if you found us through their website!

Submission Guidelines
  • We do not accept any work created, edited, or affected by AI in any way.

  • We welcome any work that blurs the boundaries of literary and artistic categories, and love all things climate eclectic. If you are submitting work that does not fit under a typical category, please select our Climate Eclectic category and submit no more than 5 pieces. Please follow all other guidelines that may pertain to your work.
  • If your work is fiction or any sort of prose, please submit a maximum of 5 pieces with no more than 2,500 words each.

Please submit an explanation of your inspiration, experience, etc. that helped you gather your work, and a list of sources. If you choose to use MLA format throughout the essay, please list your sources in the same fashion. Otherwise, please list your sources using links or book titles and use footnotes throughout the essay. Whichever path you choose, your explanation and sources DO NOT contribute to your essay word count.
  • If you are submitting photography or digital art, please submit no more than 6 pieces. Feel free to include an artist statement of at most 200 words.
  • We require first serial rights, and non-exclusive archival and reprint rights.
  • We are sorry that we cannot pay our contributors at this time, as we are just starting out as a publication. We will begin paying for your work as soon as possible, and we want you to know that your work is worth so much to us. Thank you for submitting, and for being a part of our community. We could not do this without you.
  • We accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that you message us through Subfolio when you wish to withdraw a piece from submission.
  • We accept and highly encourage international submissions. Climate change is a global problem, and requires global solutions!
  • Overcoming and living with climate change is an intersectional effort that requires us to rethink and overhaul oppressive systems. We believe that an integral part of this shift is uplifting the work of historically underrepresented writers/arists, and therefore strongly encourage submissions from Black or Indigenous people, people of color, and anyone who is impacted daily by systemic oppression. We also urge you to submit intersectional work, and to bring your whole identity to this space. We are nothing but grateful for it.
